Viñales, champion of the CEV (Spanish Speed Championship) in 2010 and of the 125cc European Championship, made his debut in 2011 in the 125cc World Championship, where he won the title of ‘Rookie of the Year’ after achieving four wins and finishing 3rd in its first season. Two years later, in 2013, he won the Moto3 World Champion crown in Valencia.

In 2014 he became the Moto2 ‘Rookie of the Year’ after winning four races. After a fleeting stint in Moto2, Viñales landed in MotoGP with Suzuki in 2016 and, for the third time in his career, won the award for best rookie, this time in the premier class. In 2017 he replaced Jorge Lorenzo in the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team box, with a spectacular start, winning the first two races, in a team in which he remained until last season, with Fabio Quartararo as a teammate, until he took the step to Aprilia Racing, his current team, alongside Aleix Espargaró.
